Volkswagen up! został uznany najlepszym samochodem świata 2012 roku (World Car of the Year).

Tak zadecydowało 46 jurorów z 21 krajów, w tym dwóch z Polski. Wyniki ogłoszono na salonie samochodowym w Nowym Jorku.

Inne wyróżnione samochody to Range Rover Evoque , który otrzymał tytuł World Car Design of the Year, Porsche 911, który uznany został World Perfomance Car of the Year i Mercedes-Benz 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, najbardziej ekologiczny samochód świata (World Green Car of the Year).
