Alfa GT voted DIESEL CAR OF THE YEAR
Just two months after its launch, the latest addition to the Alfa Romeo family, the new Alfa GT, has swept the board in the Diesel Car of the Year Awards.
In 1.9 JTD guise, the stunning coupé has not only won its class, where it competes against coupés and cabriolets, but beats all-comers to win the overall title of Diesel Car of the Year, awarded by Diesel Car magazine.
The specialist motoring title has praise for every aspect of the Alfa GT, its looks, which are described as "scandalously pretty", to its performance: "it's the most thrilling and effortless ride here within legal speed limits".
The new coupé's handling also attracts praise: - "from first gear up, the car's near perfect balance of roadholding agility and magic carpet ride spell smiles all round?.
The front-wheel drive Alfa GT JTD's 1.9-litre, 150 bhp engine is linked to a six-speed transmission, resulting in superb performance while delivering 42.2 mpg in the combined cycle.
Although the 1.9 JTD is the entry level version of the GT (its stablemates are a 2.0 JTS direct injection petrol variant and the high performance 240bhp 3.2-litre V6), standard equipment includes ABS anti-lock braking, six airbags, cruise control, CD system and trip computer. The spacious interior is upholstered in luxurious Alfatex and has five three-point seatbelts, as well as a capacious boot, which expands to 905 dm3 with the rear seats folded flat.
