Škoda Auto in Geneva: Two World Premieres and Many Novelties

The Škoda Auto company's presentation at this year's Geneva International Motor Show reveals its sports nature thanks to the world premieres of two sports cars: a hot version of the Škoda Fabia WRC rally car designed for the World Rally Championship, and a sporty Škoda Fabia RS touring car ready for demanding potential buyers among the general public.

The key point of Škoda's presentation at this year?s Geneva International Motor Show is introduction of a new Škoda Fabia WRC rally car. This car will enter for World Rally Championship events in the near future replacing the present Škoda Octavia WRC car in the Škoda Motorsport works team.

New sports version of the Fabia model, the Škoda Fabia RS car, is also going to make its world debut at the motor show in Geneva. This novelty is the spitting image of the Škoda Fabia WRC true rally car being the power-output pinnacle of the Fabia model range.

A novelty under the bonnet is a 1.9 TDI PD diesel engine delivering 96kW (130bhp). The Škoda Fabia RS equipped with this power unit reaches maximum speed of 204 kph and 0-100 kph acceleration time of 9.6 seconds with combined consumption of just 5.6 litres per 100 kilometres. A 6-speed gearbox is properly matched with engine characteristic.

Other important novelties at the motor show are new engines that are planned to appear under the bonnets of the Fabia type range cars. One of them is a 1.2 12V HTP petrol engine producing 47kW (64bhp), a more powerful modification of the 1.2 HTP/40kW engine introduced last year; the new one is different from its predecessor particularly in its four-valve per cylinder technology. Another one is a modern 1.4 TDI PD diesel three-cylinder engine developing 55kW (75bhp); Škoda Auto uses this one to respond to fast-growing interest in fuel-efficient low-capacity engines in this vehicle category.
